THE PROJECT
In the world of forensics, there are two main thrusts – the identification and collection of evidence at the crime scene and the analysis of that evidence in the lab. Most programs in the country only focus on the analysis.
The Washburn Forensic Investigation program emphasizes the crime scene aspect, setting it apart from other programs in the region. This requires specialized equipment so our students can graduate with the skills and training necessary to enter into the crime scene investigation arena for law enforcement agencies, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other such agencies.
This equipment has widespread applicability. It can be used in forensic investigation, forensic chemical science and forensic anthropology classes. It has a long lifespan and can be used with other Leica 3D scanning equipment that can be added in the future.
THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE
The Washburn Forensic Investigation program offers students the unique advantage of operating within the Kansas Bureau of Investigation Forensic Science Center. The facility and equipment are state-of-the-art, and students have the opportunity to intern with some of the best in the field.
With the purchase of this equipment, our students will have the opportunity to work with laser measuring tools and 3D scans. They can learn – and train – using a 3D mapping system, panoramic cameras and the Cyclone computer program to create output for forensic analysis, all skills they will need as they enter the workforce.
YOU CAN HELP
Our goal is to raise $20,120 for this project. Your financial support can elevate this program to a level unsurpassed in the region, providing our students an excellent, in-depth educational experience that prepares them for the next step into the professional realm.
Each semester approximately 100 students would benefit from this equipment – an investment of $200 per student, a modest investment for a field with far-ranging opportunities.
Your gift, no matter the size, can help bring this equipment to campus. With your support – combined with that of other alumni and friends – we can reach our goal of $20,120.
