THE PROJECT
Storytelling in the 21st century. Think digital. Envision a portal that provides access to a wide range of Kansas stories about artists, writers, social rights activists, educators, mental health pioneers and all things Kansas.
This digital storytelling project will support and enhance a new course being offered by the history and English departments through the development and maintenance of a digital website. Students will learn first-hand how to research and create digital stories using the one-of-a-kind Thomas Fox Averill Kansas Studies Collection.
By hiring students for three consecutive semesters beginning in the summer of 2017, we will build the framework for a web-based site that will provide a cohesive, well-organized platform accessible to Washburn students and the public alike.
THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Working with the vast collection of Kansas stories, students can research an area of interest, select an author, visit the site where the story took place, take photographs, interview an author and create their stories in a digital format that can be shared across the nation through a web-based platform.
Students themselves will create and maintain the platform adding to the digital content, refining and polishing it as they go. These are all invaluable experiences that students can take with them as they enter the next phase of their education or their careers.
YOU CAN HELP
Our fundraising goal for this project is $15,585. With your support, we can provide students with a wide range of skills they can take into the digital world. As they research and develop their stories, they can travel across the state and meet authors, subjects of compelling books, artists and composers. And, in the end, they will create and manage a digital site that features these amazing Kansas stories.
Digital storytelling is the wave of the future. Your gift can help Washburn students gain valuable experience and take part in creating a lasting, impressive web-based showcase of Kansas stories.
