THE LEGACY HE BUILT

Bob Chipman’s career at Washburn spanned five decades. His presence on the Washburn bench guided the lives of hundreds of student-athletes. Thousands of fans watched him build Ichabod basketball.

His 1986-87 national championship and 12 conference titles cement his legacy and fill the trophy cases around Lee Arena. His 800th win during his final season put him among college basketball’s elite coaches. A Michigan native, he built a name for himself in the Sunflower State as a guard under legendary Kansas State Coach Jack Hartman. Since then, he’s been dedicated to Washburn with 41 years of service – 38 as a head coach and three as an assistant.

YOU CAN HELP PRESERVE IT

Coach Chipman retired at the end of the 2016-17 season. Washburn Hall of Famer Rob Reilly, starting guard on the 1986-87 national championship team, honored his time at Washburn with a lead gift of $25,000 to create and endow the Bob Chipman 41 Years/800 Wins Scholarship Fund. Your gift to the fund will help provide scholarships for future generations of Washburn men’s basketball players, maintaining the legacy Chipman built by attracting talented student-athletes and rewarding them with scholarships.
